About

As the world’s largest community of aid & development professionals, Devex is publishing a list of the top 40 international development leaders in the London area who are under 40 years of age. These young leaders will be selected based on their influence on the development agenda and impact on development results. The list will include a diverse array of leaders, from development agencies and government to corporations and NGOs.

Our goal is to highlight and celebrate the important work of the next generation of leaders in the international development community in London.

Fortunately, young leaders in our community are abundant. No list of this kind can be entirely accurate, and we are entirely cognizant of the subjectivity that enters even a well-defined selection process. But we hope that by highlighting 40 young leaders in our community, we can encourage the development of more young leaders that we can celebrate in years to come.

We should mention that this is the second such listing: the first was the Washington, DC 40 Under 40 which was held in 2010. The Washington, DC initiative was successful beyond all expectations – so much so in fact, that we decided then to bring this initiative to London the following year.

Selection Process

The final selection of The Devex London 40 Under 40 International Development Leaders will be made by a selection committee. This committee will review nominations made by the Devex community and will use a scorecard to assess each nominee according to their influence on the development agenda and their impact on development results.

We are seeking leaders who are:

  • Impactful – making a real impact on aid & development
  • Influential – helping to shape the development agenda
  • London-Based – in the greater London area
  • 40 or younger – as of October 1, 2011
